Tech Clinic:
Shifting Technique & Understanding

Friday, February 1, 6:00 – 7:00pm

You just push the lever until it clicks and the chain changes gears... Right?  Well, maybe... but maybe not always. If shifting your bike has always been a struggle or even a little intimidating then this clinic is for you! Producing a nice, quiet, clean shift isn't always as simple as making the shift lever click. There are many reasons why the chain doesn't always change gears the way you expect it to. In this clinic we will cover the following shifting information and techniques:

  • Shifting component overview
  • Shifting timing
  • Shifting techniques
  • Basic shifting system adjustments
  • Hands on shifting tutorial

Tech Clinic:
Murphy's Law Repairs

Friday, March 15, 6:00 – 7:00pm

* NOTICE - THIS CLINIC WAS RESCHEDULED FROM 03/08 TO 03/15

When it comes to the old adage "whatever can go wrong, will go wrong", bicycles are no exception. With over 300 moving pieces in the chain alone there are plenty of possibilities for problems. Having a basic understanding of some of the most common issues you may one day encounter while Just Riding Along could mean the difference between getting home and getting an Uber. In this clinic we'll touch on these hypothetical situations and some ways to MacGyver your way home. We'll also share some very important information about when you SHOULDN'T attempt to ride home.

  • Broken shifting cable
  • Broken/twisted chain
  • Broken/lost derailleur pulley wheel
  • Bent rim
  • Broken spoke
  • Broken seatpost clamp
  • Cut tire

Tech Clinic:
Rear Derailleurs

Friday, May 10, 6:00 – 6:30pm

Now let me think... which way do I turn this barrel adjuster? ...And what is the barrel adjuster? Rear derailleurs are one of the more complex components on our bicycles that requires regular adjustments to keep shifting accurate. We'll take an in-depth look at a standard rear derailleur to understand how it functions and how to execute a full adjustment. This clinic will last about 30 minutes and will cover the following:

  • Rear derailleur anatomy & operation
  • How to set limit screws
  • How to set B-tension
  • How to index the shifting with cable tension
  • How to identify issues and damage

Tech Clinic:
Headset Adjustment

Friday, June 14, 6:00 – 6:30pm

Most of us have experienced a loose headset at some point. "The bike just feels... RICKETY". The headset is the bearing assembly in the front of our bikes that allows the fork to rotate. It takes a lot of abuse and doesn't always get all the love and respect it deserves. Join us for this 30 minute clinic as we cover the following:

  • Anatomy of the headset and the different variations
  • How to identify a loose or worn headset
  • How to adjust a basic threadless headset assembly
  • Do's and don'ts of headsets
